Dr. Linsley is an immunologist whose research uses systems biology and computational approaches to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying immune-mediated diseases. His work focuses on identifying biomarkers and biological signatures that can help explain differences in disease progression and response to therapy, particularly in type 1 diabetes (T1D). 

Before joining BRI, Dr. Linsley spent nearly 30 years in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, where he applied discovery science to questions in human health. His early work focused on drug discovery, while later research increasingly centered on developing methods to identify individuals most likely to respond to existing therapies. This experience also shaped his collaborative approach to science, bringing together expertise in immunology, bioinformatics and computational biology to address complex research questions. 

He joined BRI as a visiting scientist in 2012 and later established the Linsley Lab. His current research focuses on understanding why T1D progresses at different rates, using single-cell approaches to characterize antigen-specific T cells, and investigating immune processes associated with treatment response and clinical outcomes. At BRI, Dr. Linsley serves as a member of BRI’s Center for Systems Immunology and as principal investigator of the Linsley Lab.
